Experimental Study of Enhanced Active Resonant DC Circuit Breakers

Enhanced active resonant (EAR) DC circuit breakers (DCCBs) are a novel type of DCCB that use discharge closing switch as interruption medium. A technical limitation switches is the minimum voltage across main gap required for successful triggering. commutation process creating internally proposed, which allows to simplify EAR configuration and reduce its component count. In prototype, implemented with triggered vacuum gap. Experiments show can be reliably down 50V in highly oscillatory at low current. The originally proposed has tuned such succeeds Conversely, decouples from current level by adjusting triggering delay. This reliable irrespective operating conditions. It shown does not adversely affect interruption. Proactive operation auto-reclosing strategies demonstrated.
